Whatstandwell Festival 2018– Mid Summer Fun on the Farm

 

Whatstandwell Festival is back again, and its bigger and better than ever. The fifteenth annual Whatstandwell family friendly Festival will be held Mid Summer, over two days, Friday 22nd  and Saturday 23rd June at Hankin Farm, New Road in the barn where it never rains, we also have two outdoor marquees. The entrance fee for adults is £15 for the Weekend including a free glass, £10 for Saturday and £5 for Friday night, accompanied teenagers are half price and children are free.  Tickets are available from www.whatstandwell.org.  Capacity is limited to 500 so don’t leave it too late.  Gates open at 5pm Friday night and the fun starts at 7pm with a DJ and three great bands.  The entertainment continues on Saturday with a fun run, yoga, acoustic tent, circus skills workshop, willow weaving, pottery, chain saw art, bar, hot food plus BBQ and wood fired pizzas, fire pit and a full programme of live bands in the evening. The festival goes on until 11.30pm, with a continuous flow of music. There will be five live bands including Facsimile, No Danger, Barnie Rubblz, Uneven Planet and Marvin’s Revenge.

Saturday night is being headlined by Facsimile a highly experienced Indie / Rock covers band that play modern contemporary covers as well as the old classics by artists including The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Free, The Police, Queen, Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Snow Patrol, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers, Kings of Leon, Oasis, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Arctic Monkeys, Turin Brakes, Ed Sheeran, Adele, Santana, Jamiroquai, Robbie Williams, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5 and many more.

The line up continues with No Danger, a great local classic rock covers band with a drummer who takes on lead vocals and who is backed up with lead guitar, bass and rhythm guitar

Also on stage will be Barnie Rubblz; three young brothers from Denby who play indie rock covers and originals which they all have a passion for. They have played over 150 gigs all over the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire and now they are in Whatstandwell! http://barnierubblz.wixsite.com/br14

The Uneven Planet, all the way from Wirksworth will be treating us to some alternative indie prog rock complete with esoteric lyrics and an upbeat perspective on the trivia of life.

Marvin’s Revenge an alternative rock grunge band also from Wirksworth will be playing Saturday night with a mixture of originals and covers.

Leftychris will be headlining our acoustic stage on Saturday.  Chris has been gigging with the band Left Hand Drive since 1996 but has also started a solo act with mainly original songs stripped down to one guitar and one voice performing as a singer songwriter.

The Natterjacks, top indie folk duo hailing from Chesterfield will be headlining Friday night.  They will set out with their guitar and banjo, accompanied by the forceful thud of a kick drum and smatter of tambourine to create an energetic live atmosphere with sing-along choruses and foot stomping, banjo filled breakdowns.

The Fordhams, local accomplished indie rock covers band will be kicking things off for us on Friday night.

May Contain Nuts, great local band will also be treating us to some fantastic tunes on the Friday.

The licensed bar will serve a range of locally brewed traditional ales as well as Cider, lager, good wines, snacks and soft drinks. We will also have a Pimms and Prosecco bar. Outside, there will be children’s games and activities in the large field plus a fire pit, barbecue and wood fired pizzas.  Fun Foods will be with us on site serving hot snacks and drinks from Friday night to Saturday night.

For those who don’t want to drive home, camping is available on the farm campsite for a small additional fee, payable direct to the farm. Toilets and free showers are available on site, and caravans, camper vans and tents can all be accommodated; the view of Whatstandwell and the villages along the Derwent Valley is stunning.

There is a fun run Saturday morning with registration at 10am, one and three mile routes available, both routes are off road and through beautiful countryside. We will have a warm up in advance with Natural Born Runners and afterwards a cool down yoga session.
