The tower in the first photograph was standing between 1851 and 1922. The Hurt family of Alderwasley provided £210 to have it built after an earlier one, also built by the family in 1785, had fallen into ruins.
The present Sherwood Foresters Memorial Towers was opened on 6th August 1923.
