This book tells the story of the railway built by Stephenson which operated from 1841 to 1957. Its only purpose was to carry limestone from the quarry below Crich Stand to be built in the huge kilns at Ambergate. Full details are given of the construction of the line, the introduction of steam locomotives and eventually diesels.

It is profusely illustrated by numerous photographs, most of which have never been published before, which new and older residents will find fascinating. Railway enthusiasts will welcome the detailed drawings of the lovomotives and rolling stock.
