Over the next couple of months there are two meetings we would like to bring to your attention.
Firstly, on Thursday May 21st we welcome Dr Chris Richards, Director of ‘Lovewise’, a Newcastle-based charity. ‘Lovewise’ aims to uphold the place of marriage in society and seeks to counsel young people to place sexual relationships in the context of marriage. Their work involves producing materials for schools and giving presentations to the young. With the issue of teenage pregnancy being often raised in the media, Dr Richards will be speaking about the flawed ideas that underpin current public policy and will be offering the counsel of Scripture as a better and wiser way forward. Starting at 7.45 p.m. we would invite any young people, concerned parents or those simply interested in what is happening in society today, to come and find out more.
Secondly, the year 2009 has seen much publicity surrounding the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin’s ‘The Origin of Species’, the seminal work which catapulted the theory of evolution into the public domain. On Wednesday July 1st we have the visit of Mr Phil Robinson from Leicester-based organisation, Creation Ministries International. Although it was Darwin’s theory which was controversial in its own day, today it is belief in creation that is likely to stoke a lively debate and be labelled ‘controversial’. So does science bear Darwin and his followers out? Or are there good scientific grounds for believing in creation? Starting at 7.30 p.m. Mr Robinson will air these issues and ask, “Why all the fuss about Darwin?”, and help us understand what is at stake.
Refreshments will be served after both these events and there is no charge for admission.
Our Sunday School takes place during the Morning Service and if you would like your children to come, they would be welcome at the beginning of the service at 10.45 during which the Pastor gives a ‘Children’s Talk’. The Sunday School itself begins at 11.15 and takes place in the ‘School Room’ at the rear of the church which can be found by going down the drive between Lloyds the Chemist and the church.
Most Thursdays we hold a club for young people of ‘Primary School’ age. There is Bible teaching, games, crafts, quizzes and other activities. The times for those aged 5-7 (Infants) is 5-6pm and for those aged 8 and above (Juniors/Seniors) is 6-7pm.
