The precept for the next financial year has been set at £34,000, which is the same as that for the current year.

I am very pleased to report that the youth club opened on the 3rd November and has been well attended from the
outset. The Wii, pool table, and other activities we have on offer are all popular and we shall shortly be adding table
tennis. The volunteer helpers organised a Christmas party for the youngsters and we hope to offer other activities as time goes on, in consultation with the young people. We have been promised a visit by the Derbyshire County Council
Youth Service’s Adventurous Activities Team, who will be bringing their climbing wall. I wish to say a big “thank you” to our volunteers, Lyn Godfrey, Paul McCarthy, and Nicki Petcher, who run the sessions very efficiently and with good humour. Additional volunteers would be welcomed. I also want to pay tribute to our Police Safer Neighbourhood Team, P.C. Peter Wilbourne and P.C.S.O. Donna Walker (formerly Shaw) who secured financial support from Derbyshire Constabulary to help us set up the club and whose continued interest in the project is much appreciated.

Dog mess continues to be the subject of complaints to the Parish Council but it is difficult to find places to put dog
waste bins as no one wants them near their property. However, it is perfectly in order to put dog mess in ordinary litter bins, provided it is securely wrapped in a plastic bag.

This winter, as last, we have had problems keeping grit bins filled. The problem has been exacerbated by
people stealing the grit to use on their own properties. The grit in the bins is for use on public roads and pavements
only and theft for personal use is an offence. Please can people who need grit for their own drives etc. stock up in
time for winter and help us to keep the roads and pavements safe and passable. It would also be helpful if members of the public could report empty grit bins to the relevant council. A list of all the bins in the parish (showing whose they
are) is on the website.

The flowers provided by the Parish Council at various places in the parish during the summer months proved so
popular that we decided to team up with the traders to put up small Christmas trees. We hope you all enjoyed the
result.
