Picture of Ethan, Billy and Fergus with the engineChildren at Crich Church of England Infant School have an unusual piece of science equipment thanks to funding from Rolls-Royce. The steam engine, which is worth more than £300, was demonstrated by school governor Reverend Horlock.

Headteacher Julie Kirk said they thought it would be useful to show the children the difference between modern and old toys. It will also be used as part of science and history projects. Miss Kirk said: “It will be really good to let the children see what it is they’re learning about.”

The engine will now join many other toys of yesteryear in the school museum.
