TORS COMMUNITY SPORTS CLUB

It’s all go in the Crich and Fritchley area with the Tors Community Sports Club – the Cycling Club has started up since the last CACN issue; the Running Club have moved to a Wednesday night and now have Jog Derbyshire trained leaders, and the Tors Under Fives (TUFs) continue their Saturday morning sessions during term time. There is also a new website with details of the different clubs and how to contact them: www.torssports.org.uk

Tors Joggers Running Club

Becky Poyser recently completed Jog Derbyshire’s ‘Leadership in Running Fitness’ training course, which is designed to equip new jog leaders with the knowledge and skill required to lead mixed ability groups of walkers and joggers. It also brings Tors Joggers under the Jog Derbyshire umbrella with benefits including comprehensive insurance, promotion on their website and support for the club. Tors Joggers meet on Wednesdays outside Fritchley Primary school at 7.15 p.m. to start running at 7.30 p.m. Costs £1 per week, all abilities welcome.

Cycling Club

Abilities range from beginner to some experience, so all welcome. The current riders are all enthusiastic to improve so anybody who can bring more experience to the group or would like to lead would be welcomed with open arms! Cycling Club meets outside Crich Tea Rooms on Sunday mornings at around 8.30 a.m., no charge at present. Phone 07962 340171 to find out more.

Tors Under Fives (TUFs)

Saturday morning sessions for preschoolers and toddlers continue to run from 10.00 to 11.30 at Fritchley Congregational Chapel Hall; session themes include jungle, pirates, zoo and magic carpet. All sessions aim to help develop ball skills, movement, balance and jumping and dodging whilst having fun and creating an outlet for all that energy! Please come along and give it a go, we are keen to see some new faces. Cost from 1 year old/walking: £2 first child, £1 additional children.

Other news

Junior sports activities are in the pipeline with plans to meet with a local FA coach to run training sessions; anyone with any sports contacts who would be willing to give up their time to help set up junior sports activities in the Crich area please contact the club secretary on 07717 385235.

The Committee would like to thank Cllr Chris Jackson for arranging £500 from the “Members Community Leadership Scheme” to fund repairs to the Fritchley Sports Pavilion roof, and to make some anti-vandalism changes which were suggested by the local police crime prevention officer.

TCSC had a promotional stand at Fritchley School Autumn Fair which garnered plenty of interest; the Club also hosted an ‘Active Play’ session on the playground charging 50p per child to play on a wide selection of ride-on and outdoor toys kindly supplied for the day by Crich Toy Library, which raised over £25 for the TUFs.

Can you help?

The club needs more people to help take it forward both on the committee and as activity leaders. If you have any time available, and expertise or experience, and would like to help us create a thriving Sports Club for all ages and abilities in the Crich community, please contact the Club Secretary on 07717 385235.
